Reading Bitcoin with the I Ching: the Najia Six-Line Method

Short answer: a BTC price question is a wealth question, so the focus line is the Wealth line (妻財). When Wealth is strong and supported the sign leans up; when it is weak, controlled or void it leans down. Below: how to cast, what each line means, and the judging rules. Entertainment only — hexagrams do not predict markets.

1. How does the I Ching read BTC?

Liuyao (六爻, the Najia or "coin" method) is a form of I Ching divination: you toss three coins six times to build one hexagram, assign each line an earthly branch, an element and one of the "six relatives," then take the line that matches your question — the focus line (yong shen) — and read its strength. A BTC up/down question is a wealth question, so the focus line is always the Wealth line.

Six steps to cast

  1. Settle your mind on the question (BTC price = a wealth question).
  2. Toss three coins; heads = 3, tails = 2; sum the three.
  3. 6 = old yin (moving → yang) · 7 = young yang (still) · 8 = young yin (still) · 9 = old yang (moving → yin).
  4. Stack from line 1 (bottom) up over six tosses for the primary hexagram; moving lines form a changed hexagram.
  5. Assign branches, elements and relatives via Najia; mark self, response and moving lines.
  6. Take Wealth as the focus line; read its strength to judge the lean.

2. Line / Relative → BTC Market Meaning

Liuyao labels every line with one of the "six relatives." Mapped onto the crypto market, they read like this (a fixed correspondence, not live data):

Table 1: The six relatives as BTC market roles
RelativeTraditional meaningBTC market meaning
Wealth (妻財)Money, the thing soughtPrice and capital itself; the focus line for BTC
Offspring (子孫)Fortune, the source of wealthMarket momentum, bullish sentiment, buy-side energy
Officer (官鬼)Trouble, threat to selfRisk, bad news, regulation and shocks (pressure when strong)
Sibling (兄弟)Peers, wealth-robbersBull/bear tug-of-war, competition, volatility and disagreement
Parent (父母)Shelter, documentsThe broad market and macro backdrop, policy news, fundamentals

3. Judging rules (wealth question, focus line = Wealth)

The common rules are summarised below; the site's readings follow this kind of logic:

Wealth weak, controlled or voidLeans down
Wealth moves and changes into supportStrong up

4. FAQ

How do you use the I Ching (Liuyao) to read Bitcoin?

Toss three coins six times, build the hexagram from the bottom up, and assign branches via Najia. A BTC price question is a wealth question, so the focus line is Wealth: strong and supported leans up; weak, controlled or void leans down. Entertainment only — it does not predict the market.

What does the Wealth line (妻財) represent?

The Wealth line is the focus line for money questions. For BTC it represents price and capital itself. Strong and supported by the day or month leans up; weak, controlled or void leans down.

What do the Offspring and Officer lines mean?

Offspring is the source that generates wealth: market momentum and bullish sentiment. Officer is risk, bad news and regulation; too strong signals pressure.

What is the focus line and why is it Wealth for BTC?

The focus line (yong shen) is the single line that stands for what you ask about. Liuyao classifies questions by topic, and any money question uses the Wealth line, so a BTC question takes Wealth.

What are Clashing and Combining hexagrams?

A six-clash hexagram signals sharp, reversing volatility; a six-combine hexagram signals sideways consolidation. They describe rhythm, not direction.

What are moving lines and the changed hexagram?

Old yin and old yang are moving lines that flip to the opposite; the hexagram they form is the changed hexagram. Wealth changing into support leans strongly up; into control or void often means a peak then pullback.

What does the self line controlling Wealth mean?

The self line stands for you. When it controls Wealth, the classic reading is wanting to get in but not being able to — a mismatch of intent and timing.

Is the I Ching accurate for Bitcoin?

This site claims no accuracy rate. Hexagrams do not predict markets and the content is entertainment only. Crypto is high risk; do your own research and consult a professional.

How often can I ask?

Tradition says one question per casting and that repeating the same question insincerely muddies the reading. This site is entertainment, so play freely, but ask with intent.

How is Liuyao different from BaZi or Zi Wei astrology?

BaZi and Zi Wei read a birth chart for a long-term life reading. Liuyao casts a hexagram in the moment for one specific question — a short-term reading — which is why it suits asking about BTC at a given time.

5. Cast one yourself

Better to try than to read. Toss three coins and cast a hexagram for BTC right now:
